WOCF Film Lab (annual)
This 6-month lab takes filmmakers from script development, pre-production, production, and post. Through mentors, classes, and workshops the filmmakers learn how to make a cinematic short film on a limited budget.
See short video below to hear 3 of the alumni talk about their experience in the film lab.
Writer's Boot Camp (annual)
In this 2-day intensive, writers are coached on scriptwriting techniques to enhance the stories they want to tell. They get a workout in the fundamentals of screenwriting through production and build strong muscles in plot and character development. This in-person workshop gives writers the opportunity to network and collaborate with other like-minded screenplay writers.
Directors Workshop (twice a year)
This workshop is designed to give filmmakers the basic skills to ensure they are visually telling an appealing story that will elevate them as a filmmaker. In this course, we virtually walk them through how to create these elements in their work and help them prepare to direct their film. This workshop includes the following:
Camera Blocking (How camera movement helps tell your story)
Camera Perspective (The importance of what is in the frame and out of frame)
Camera Angles ( How camera angles help tell your story and intensify your actor's performance
Lighting (How lighting can reveal things about your character)
Audio (Capturing clean audio)
Film Tone (Light, exposure, and how to plan your tonal range)
Post Production(Working with an editor/ Reports & Logs)
Script To Screen (bi-monthly)
At this meeting, we review scenes from studio films, then watch the scenes to analyze how they brought the script to life with Art Direction, Mise en Scene, Camera Movement, and Lighting.
We assess how much of the written script actually made it into the final film and we dive into how filmmakers can apply studio techniques to their own films to make them cinematically dynamic.
Script Writers Circle (weekly)
This is a virtual table read where we read up to 30 pages of a member's feature-length script, pilot or short. This is a great way for members to hear the words of their script read aloud and receive constructive feedback regarding, story structure, format, character development, and dialogue.
WOCF has hosted some of the most influential actors, directors, and industry professionals who shared how they achieved their goals, overcome adversity, and tips to live by. These thought leaders have inspired our members with ideas and techniques for writing, pitching, producing, directing, and more.
