About the Event

The first time you direct a project it can feel  overwhelming. You desperately want to make a good movie but you're not  sure how to visually tell your story. Maybe you do have some ideas of  how you want to shoot your film but you're not sure if those ideas will  give you the cinematic look you desire on your limited budget.

In this class, we will briefly touch on:

  1. How to use camera angles and blocking to strategically reveal story elements and information about your characters.
  2. How lighting can create mood and the tone of your film.
  3. The importance of taking your time with pre-production
  4. How to communicate with your crew to achieve your film goals.
  5. Working with an editor who understands your vision.

This class is an introduction to the Virtual  Indie Director workshop that will start January 27th taught by WOCF  Founder & President, Landi Maduro. If you have taken the  class or this workshop before this is a great refresher on some of the  techniques and skills Landi teaches.

Landi is an award-winning writer, director, and  producer. She has directed and produced short films, features, music  videos, small business commercials, business tutorials, and  documentaries since launching her production company, Bluechild  Entertainment, in 2012. Her award-winning documentary, The Silent  Killer: Prostate Cancer In The African American Community has screened  twice for the Congressional Black Caucus and is in demand by healthcare  professionals and scholars to educate on the health disparities African  American men face dealing with prostate cancer.

Landi recently worked on the holiday film Love  After, the faith-based film Driving Force, the female boxing franchise  Lola 2 available on AMC/AllBlk network, and directed 6 episodes of an  unscripted network show soon to be announced. Landi teaches beginning,  intermediate, and advanced filmmaking to students of all ages. She  offers consulting and coaching to indie filmmakers. She is a mentor in  the Women of Color Unite's #Startwith8 program, curated to assist WOC in  obtaining tangible progress in their desired film careers. She is also  the proud Founder & President of Women of Color Filmmakers; a 501c3  nonprofit organization that garners support, skill-building, and  networking for female filmmakers as they pursue careers in film and  television.
