Since the founding of WOCF, I’ve been committed to ensuring that we remain a community where women of color and  female identifying individuals can safely develop their stories, hone their craft, and support one another without barriers. I’m proud to say that on a shoestring budget, we’ve built exactly that. Watching our organization, our programs, and our members flourish has been nothing short of inspiring.

However, with growth comes new responsibilities, particularly financial ones. As much as I love this organization and what we stand for, continuing at this pace is no longer sustainable. Programs like the Film Lab, Script Writers Circle, Script to Screen, and Writer’s Boot Camp, along with the new initiatives we wish to introduce, require a structure that can support them financially. Of course we have applied for grants and we will continue to apply, but most grants for organizations like ours are given to youth based non-profits. Very few are given to organizations that support women, let alone women of color.
